Background

It all starts with an idea………………….

Many years ago, I decided that the stories I had heard as a child, and throughout my life, from the older generations of Whitby folk needed to be preserved, and that the best way to do this was to record them, and then pass them on.

I realised quite early on in the process that I didn’t want to write a book! Too boring! (Sorry lovely people that like books!)

I collated my own information of various stories, then researched to fill in the gaps. Of course there were many variations of the same stories, with different ‘facts’. I spent a long time creating a version of the stories that went along with the majority of the different ‘facts’. Then set about writing each story. By this point, I knew that I wanted to present my version of the Whitby stories in person, to visitors and residents alike.

My background in pantomime and teaching, coupled with a sincere pride in my home town seemed to provide the perfect springboard!

I made the decision to write and present Whitby’s stories in rhyme! Either a brave, or foolish decision….. perhaps time will tell…..

I thoroughly enjoyed the process of creating the rhymes, it took many months, and there were many times when I thought about giving up.

Then again many more months learning and rehearsing my rhymes, before launching myself onto small groups of my friends, as I needed to practice the stories whilst walking around the relevant Whitby streets.

Then finally I started to offer my Ghost Walk to the general public.

I have had so much positive feedback from my customers, that I am encouraged to stick at it, business is slowly growing, and I am thoroughly enjoying delivering my rhyming stories.

At this point, I’m really glad I have done this…………………

I’m proud of what I am able to deliver to people having an evening out in Whitby.
